Worm Gear vs T-Bolt vs Pow'r-Gear® Hose Clamps

Worm Gear vs T-Bolt vs Pow'r-Gear® Hose Clamps

Choosing between hose clamps? At Specialty Sales, we stock standard worm gear clampsT-Bolt clamps, and Pow'r-Gear® clamps. They're all hose clamps, but each one is built for a different job.

Quick Rule of Thumb

  • General hose clamping where adjustability and economy matter? Worm gear
  • High-vibration, higher-pressure, or heavy machinery applications? T-Bolt
  • Need a stronger worm drive clamp with a broader take-up range? Pow'r-Gear®

Worm Gear Clamps

Worm gear clamps are the standard hose clamp style most customers recognize. They have a broad take-up range, which means they can cover more diameter variation within a specific clamp size.

That makes worm gear clamps a practical choice when the application is straightforward and the clamp sizing does not need to be as exact. They're also typically the most economical option among the clamp types in this comparison.

  • Broad take-up range for more flexible sizing
  • Good starting point for general hose clamping applications
  • Typically the most economical option
  • Not as strong as heavier-duty clamp styles like T-Bolt or Pow'r-Gear®

T-Bolt Clamps

T-Bolt clamps are the heavier-duty option. They're built for applications where vibration, pressure, machinery, or heavier service conditions make a standard worm gear clamp less ideal.

You often see T-Bolt clamps used in heavy industrial and agricultural settings where equipment vibrates throughout the day. The main advantage is clamping strength. The tradeoff is sizing: T-Bolt clamps have a narrower take-up range, so the clamp size needs to be more exact.

  • Built for heavier-duty hose clamping applications
  • Useful where vibration, pressure, or machinery movement are part of the job
  • Narrower take-up range than a standard worm gear clamp
  • Requires more exact clamp sizing

Pow'r-Gear® Clamps

Pow'r-Gear® clamps sit between standard worm gear clamps and T-Bolt clamps.

They're still worm drive clamps, not T-Bolt clamps. But they're built for tougher applications than a standard worm gear clamp. Specialty Sales lists Pow'r-Gear® 60 clamps for high-vibration and stubborn leakage applications.

The easiest way to think about them: Pow'r-Gear® gives you much of the heavier-duty clamping strength you would look for from a T-Bolt clamp, while keeping the broader take-up range and adjustability of a worm gear-style clamp.

  • High-performance worm drive clamp
  • Designed for high-vibration and stubborn leakage applications
  • Broader take-up range than a T-Bolt clamp
  • Stronger option than a standard worm gear clamp
  • Useful when you want the strength upgrade without moving fully to a T-Bolt clamp

Material Options

Specialty Sales stocks hose clamp options in multiple materials, including carbon steel, 301 stainless steel, 304 stainless steel, and 316 stainless steel, depending on the clamp style and application.

The right material depends on the environment, the connection, and the service conditions. If corrosion resistance, washdown, outdoor exposure, or chemical exposure is part of the application, confirm the material before ordering.
